Anger Management Course Reducing Domestic Violence

Rith is a 48 year old police officer with the Ministry of the Interior. In December 2008, Rith returned home drunk and angry at his wife and started verbally abusing her. She became angry back at him, so he hit her in the face. The next day, his wife was referred by a network member to CWCC for help and she went to stay in the safe shelter.

In March 2009, the Anger Management for Men Counselor went to meet Rith in his community. Being a police officer, he told the counselor that he was already aware of the laws on domestic violence but he still found it hard to control his anger. The counselor then talked to him about reducing his alcohol intake and about tools that he could use to ensure he never abused his wife again, for example going for a walk or meditation or chores outside the house to release his stress and anger.

Subsequently, his wife returned home and network members in the community have continued to follow-up on the case, reporting that there has not been another instance of abuse in their marriage.
